Flag Football

I didn't really want to, but when it isn't tackle, and all his friends are playing, how do you say "No"? So we are into flag football now, the next in the line of successive sports that just seem to back up to one another. Davis is having a lot of fun. In one game he scored an extra point (from a pass no less) and a touchdown. I am just hoping that this doesn't evolve into a love of tackle football. I am not so sure I am up for the commitment... or the bodily harm to my son.

Lucky number 7

Davis turned 7 and boy did we celebrate! We invited 3 of his closest friends to a Bees game. It was a party! Davis decided to invite his grandparents (both sets) and his aunt Kim and Kylie too. We had quite the crew! I called in advance and arranged for them to announce his birthday on the big screen. Too bad he was off getting ice cream and missed it. I was waiting for the announcement so I noticed, but they said "Happy Birthday to David"! Poor kid- I am sure that is a preview of what is to come in his life. Oh well. Other than that, we couldn't have made the night more perfect. The Bees won, they had fireworks (flag day), and the kids got to run the bases after it was all over. We didn't get home until after 11:00, but it was worth it! A perfect summer night.

The boys and their project

I am not sure if the obsession started with the movie "Down and Derby" or if it started when Scott was Scoutmaster, but our boys have been in love with pinewood derby cars for some time. They have been playing with Scott's cars (saved by grandma) from when he was a scout. Well last weekend we cleaned out the garage and the boys got the idea that a clean workbench needs a project. Why not make their own "down and derby" cars? So, they spent the weekend working with dad on shaping their blocks of wood into "the hottest, fastest, cars around". I stepped in to help paint and the result was... well, you judge for yourself.

Expensive round of golf

So- Scott took Davis golfing the other day. Being the cool dad that he is, he let Davis drive the cart. Well- one thing led to another and Davis ended up hitting a 5 foot granite sign. Too bad for us- the sign broke at the bottom- fell over and cracked again- in half. Then comes the really great dad moment- Scott turns it into a lesson in honesty for Davis. They proceeded to the clubhouse where Scott told the guy what happened (Davis driving and all)- unfortunately the golf course said we would be liable. So we are still holding our breath for the grand total- hopefully it will be less than we are fearing (mulitple thousands). We are accepting pity donations of any amount.

Davis Lost His First Tooth!

Davis lost his first tooth on March 8. He has been waiting for months now. The last time he went to the dentist (last summer), the dentist happened to mention that he had a tooth he would loose in about 6 months. Well, of course Davis was listening and took him quite literally- so he kept asking me; “Mom, has it been six months since I have been to the dentist?” At first I didn’t know what he was getting at- then it dawned on me. Well- the blessed day came and he was so excited. He says it sort of came out “by accident” because he wasn’t trying to get it out at the time. He was trying to tear open the wrapper to his toy from his Carl’s Jr. meal. In the picture he is holding up his tooth and the note he wrote to the tooth fairy.
